Fly to Greece with British Airways and start with the capital, Athens.

This time-stamped city is front and centre in a host of Ancient Greek myths, and you can visit the now-crumbling historic landmarks yourself. Head up to the Acropolis to enjoy panoramic views, then down to one of the rooftop bars in the evening to see the citadel lit up against the night sky.

In Greece’s second largest city, Thessaloniki, pair trips to the beach with touring Roman and Byzantine relics.

If sandy stretches are your thing, hop over to Corfu. The island is famous for its beach scene, with 152 Blue Flag-certified spots.

If you’re on a romantic getaway, make for Santorini, with its world-famous sunsets and intimate feel. The iconic whitewashed walls topped with powder-blue domes are king here. Book your holiday to Greece with us today.

Greece flight FAQs

A flight from London to mainland Greece takes about three hours and 30 minutes. Flights to the Greek islands can take anywhere between three and four hours, depending on where you’re going.

British Airways flies to Greece from all major London airports, including London Heathrow and London Gatwick.

You’re likely to save if you visit Greece during the winter, especially from December to March. You’ll get to experience the country’s best attractions while they’re much quieter, and if you’re lucky, you might even see world-famous sites like the Acropolis covered in snow.

Greece is at its best during the summer, when it experiences long days filled with sunshine. However, the beaches and bars are much busier during these times, so visit during the spring or autumn – May or September are the sweet spots – to enjoy great weather without the crowds.

A trip to Greece can be very affordable and often depends on where you travel. Santorini and Mykonos are known for being on the more expensive side, but there are lots of islands that you can visit for less. Crete and Kefalonia are big names that don’t cost quite as much, while lesser-known isles like Paros and Ios are good for a trip somewhere under the radar.

Ferries are a great way to get around Greece. You can hop between islands if you want to explore during your trip or make the most of the public transport system on the mainland by taking trains and buses. It’s also easy to take a short flight from one place to another – Rhodes to Athens takes under an hour by plane.

You can also explore Greece on your own schedule by hiring a car with British Airways and you’ll receive great benefits, with all mandatory charges included and 24-hour customer support, plus you’ll collect Avios points on every rental.

Greece is far more than just sun, sea and sand. Scattered across its mainland and the islands, you’ll find what’s left of an ancient civilisation that’s shaped the modern world. Philosophers like Aristotle and Plato lived and worked in Greece, while the food scene has lots of famous exports – grab gyros and tzatziki for a delicious Greek lunch on the go. As you explore, keep an eye out for the historic ruins and callbacks to the famous myths and legends that shape the country’s identity even today.

You can book a hand baggage-only ticket or make the most of our generous baggage allowance. If you choose economy standard or one of our British Airways Holidays’ packages, each passenger can check in a bag weighing up to 23kg – in addition to a handbag, laptop case or other small bag. Families travelling in any cabin with younger children can also check in one car seat and one fully collapsible pushchair. Read more about baggage allowances for children.

If you’re flying in our business cabin, you can check in two bags weighing up to 32kg each. Read our baggage guide for full details.

If you travel to Greece with a valid British passport and stay for less than 90 days, a visa is not required. If you’re from a country outside the EU, you may need to apply for a visa in advance of your trip. You can find out more about visa requirements for all the countries we fly to at the IATA Travel Centre.

Discover outstanding service from the moment you book. Choose to fly with hand baggage only or pick a price that includes a 23kg checked baggage allowance and free seat selection 24 hours before you fly. On board you’ll find HEPA-filtered air, quality on-board catering and a warm, uniquely British welcome.

Simply relax and let us take care of you, every step of the way.
